FAQs

How do I get Halal certification?

The steps to Halal certification are outlined in the Our Process (make link) section of this website. Simply stated, they involve an application, review, and inspection, as well as continued compliance with any standards issues subsequent to certification.

Why should I be certified Halal with HFSAA?

HFSAA is becoming known for its ‘no nonsense’ attitude when it comes to avoiding controversial and unconventional methods of Halal operations and protocol. By bypassing controversy through our universal standards, HFSAA allows your business to do what it does best: serve the Muslim consumer and maintain your business integrity – all while avoiding the problems of Halal gossip and doubt that all too often plague Muslim businesses.

It’s time for accountability. As we have seen through our national research, those businesses and brands which bring doubtful and controversial protocols into their operations are frequently entangled with public relations crisis, and the subsequent financial losses and drops in demand. This is primarily due to the fact that as consumers are becoming more educated and concerned with Halal issues, both through our chapter-based programs and educational efforts throughout America, as well as a general trend toward being more conscientious about consumption, they are more prone to staying away from doubtful and controversial products and keen on following in the way of the prophetic model as idealized in the sunnah.

HFSAA is a grassroots community-led initiative; it represents the desires of the generality of the Muslims as well as their scholarly tradition, and shuns the path of promoting itself as an industry-based organization only.

How long does Halal certification take?

It depends on the type of certification, but sometimes less than two weeks. HFSAA understands that you may be pressed for time or require certification by a certain deadline. In these cases, we are pleased to pull out all the stops and provide expedited services to try and meet your deadline. In many cases we will be able to reduce the timeline by several days, while safeguarding and not compromising our standards, thus helping our clients on their path to success.

What standards does HFSAA subscribe to?

HFSAA certifies to those standards which are in accordance to the Qur’anic and Prophetic models. It is not built on any international standards or accreditation, many of which are still going through revisions. Our goal is to provide the best and most accepted standards of Halal quality for the American Muslim community.

What if I’m currently certified (for products and national suppliers) by a different certification agency?

No problem. HFSAA offers a unique endorsing program to assist you in receiving superior value and benefits from us. Because we understand that labeling changes are often the most grueling factor in a certifier change, and if that is what is occurring in this process, HFSAA will allow reasonable time frames to modify your existing labels.
